Uche announces new album “HOW TO LIVE / HOW TO DIE” and shares music video for “AWAKE”
Rising LA artist, producer and creative Uche unleashes his incendiary new single and video for “AWAKE” – dropping independently on November 14th.
Equal parts raw, stylish and disruptive, Uche continues to flaunt his rare lyrical integrity across “AWAKE”. A vigorous atmosphere laced with distorted synths and power-charged percussion produced by JU and Die Next Weekend, the young talent quickly emerges with vengeance, delivering infectious flows bursting authority and menace. A frantic yet hyper-vigilant focus leads with intent; Uche battling the toxic influences that threaten to disrupt his vision, only to return with renewed hunger for progression as one of the most exciting emerging talents across the underground.
Paired with an electric, self-directed music video, we see Uche maneuvering through industrial settings – flexing his high-octane approach with sharp textures and gritty cinematography, instantly conveying the fast pace and disorientation of inner-city life at street level.
Speaking on the track, Uche mentions: “Life's been a whirlwind, the world's been in a frantic place and as a result I'm lying awake all the time trying to get to where I'm going. ‘AWAKE’ is that energy.”
Born in Chicago before moving to Nigeria, Uche has been surrounded by influences across music, fashion, culture and community from an early age. His natural reflex for music was realised in Nigerian church choirs, including All Saints Church, Yaba, which ultimately fuelled his desire for performance and the creative arts. Returning to the US allowed space for Uche’s musical palette to develop towards a deeper, more technical side, utilising immersive experiences with Chi-town’s innovative and disruptive soundscapes.
Sharpening his aesthetic while modelling for Nike Air Force 1’s global campaign, Uche continued to hone his craft across Chicago with performances at city mainstays like Reggies, Metro and the key non-profit organization Young Chicago Authors, before expanding his creative reach to the vibrant streets of Los Angeles.
Guiding his path to success while imprinting his artistic affinities onto the culture, Uche dropped his powerful debut EP Lost last year – a true homecoming that re-introduced his unique, subversive sound. The multi-hyphenate later shifted focus to his acclaimed studio album There’s Fire On the Lake. With vivid storytelling on standout track “PHONE” (watch) elevating the album’s sonic and visual universe, Uche created some of his most potent visual art to date - a pivotal moment that’s become a cornerstone of the electrifying legacy he’s building.
Already making waves with the likes of WONDERLAND, COLORS, BBC 1XTRA and Charlie Sloth’s ‘Fire In The Booth’ all proclaiming a potent force, Uche’s blend of individuality and vision marks him as a serious new talent breaking international borders.
