Producer and singer-songwriter Faye Meana has returned with new single ‘No Hay Que Llorar’, a mesmerising Spanish fusion with reggaeton influences.
Having kicked off a new run of music last month with 80’s inspired jam ‘On & On’, followed by a performance at Cross The Tracks festival, Faye Meana stands out as an experimental artist whose melting pot of influences across modern R&B, electronic and pop are constantly evolving. On ‘No Hay Que Llorar’ she finds inspiration in reggaeton with a spellbinding offering about realising self worth and implementing change. Flexing her bilingual skills, the London based artist blends English and Spanish vocals as she reflects on a relationship in turmoil, delivering a sultry sound reminiscent of late summer nights spent ruminating over questionable decisions. Speaking of the inspiration behind the single - which translates to ‘No Need To Cry’ in English - Faye Meana explains:
"I wrote ‘No Hay Que Llorar’ as a reflection on not just my own experiences but also based on those around me, which is often the case in my writing. The whole preface of the song is kind of realising your self worth and inflicting change.”
A fierce creative, Faye Meana trained in jazz piano from the age of five before discovering GarageBand aged 14, producing songs she’d already written on the piano into actual tracks. At 16 she moved over to Logic and continued her journey into production, before officially sharing her first music publicly in 2016. Crediting her mother’s love of disco and her father’s taste for Motown as integral influences on her expansive musical identity, her ear for contemporary artists such as St.Panther, Rosalia and L'Impératrice also demonstrate her forward-thinking approach which bleeds into this latest run of music. Blending the worlds of electronic music with modern R&B and beyond, her self-produced tracks have been laced with 80’s influences in recent years, most noticeably on previous singles ‘No Need To Be Shy’ and ‘On & On’.
With support coming from the likes of Jamz Supernova and Jess Iszatt of BBC Introducing London, plus well-established publications COLORS, Notion, Wonderland and more, Faye Meana’s vibrant style will continue to flourish this Summer as more music is expected to follow.
