LA icon Duckwrth returns to the ether with his frantic new cut “Toxic Romantic” – taken from his highly anticipated studio album All American F*ckboy dropping this year.
Exuding the electric, raw energy you’d expect, “Toxic Romantic” follows the chaos-laden trail of Duckwrth’s alter-ego; a frantic and assertive nature that becomes distorted through a nocturnal lens of temptation and influence. The track explodes into a field of blistering punk and hip-hop, with power-charged basslines setting pace as Duckwrth quickly flaunts his abrasive, quick-witted lyrics gleaming with knowing and intent. “I’m so problematic // My baby says she can’t stand it,” the South Central LA talent echoes while voicing the darker, more destructive themes of lust and escapism.
From hazy, drunken altercations and high-speed pursuits to the moment of realisation, the powerful music video directed by Griffin Olis instantly brings the sharp soundwaves to life, packed with the type of absurdism projected in the allure of toxic influences; a vigorous journey serving as a reflection of this all-consuming, treacherous persona and the self-destructive affinities that follow suit.
Duckwrth adds: “I’ve been very aware of the bad habits I perpetuate—like entertaining other women while in a relationship—but that awareness didn’t stop me from being selfish in the past."
“Toxic Romantic” follows on from his critically acclaimed single “Had Enough” (watch) – a raw and introspective exploration of the darker sides of indulgence. Directed by longtime collaborator Alex 'Grizz' Loucas, the music video takes viewers on a visceral afterparty journey, with Duckwrth’s choreography powerfully mirroring the impact of alcohol and substance abuse. With the likes of ROLLING STONE, WONDERLAND, CLASH and NOTION (Cover) all proclaiming a significant talent delivering art that feels as beautiful as it is meaningful, Duckwrth continues to rise as a complex, creative star for the masses.
Across his forthcoming album, All American F*ckBoy unfolds like a gripping story, with Duckwrth taking listeners on a raw, introspective journey from beginning to end. Through themes of toxic love, hedonism, and the consequences of his actions, he reveals how escapism, generational trauma, and a fractured sense of self fuel destructive impulses.
